Show full summary
- Mink farmers: Farmers could no longer sell or move captive American mink across state or international lines. They would be eligible for a government buy-out based on the farm's most recent 3-year average mink count and the farm's infrastructure value.
- Workers and local economies: Workers on mink farms and related suppliers could lose jobs as captive fur production ceases in affected operations.
- Fur dealers and retailers: Businesses that trade, process, or sell mink or mink products across state or national borders would be barred from doing so for captive American mink.
- Exempt entities: Entities described in section 3(e)(2) of the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 are exempt and may continue activities allowed under that law.
*Would authorize a buy-out program that depends on future appropriations and does not itself obligate federal spending.*

Ban on farmed mink commerce
This bill would prohibit, with limited exceptions, moving, selling, buying, receiving, or acquiring American mink raised in captivity for fur in interstate or foreign commerce. Certain entities described in the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 would be exempt from the ban.
Government buyout for mink farms
This bill would create a buy-out program for privately owned mink farms. The Secretary would seek to buy farms only if Congress provides money each year.
