Stronger federal coordination on retail crime
If enacted, the Attorney General, Homeland Security Secretary, Postmaster General, and heads of named agencies would have 180 days to make a joint strategy. The plan would say how agencies share information with FBI, Customs and Border Protection, Secret Service, and others on organized retail crime networks. The plan would also say how agencies would help State and local law enforcement compile evidence for prosecutions and how they would work with retailers and retail crime task forces. If enacted, the Comptroller General would publish a separate report within 1 year on private sector and law enforcement coordination. The Attorney General and Homeland Security Secretary would name which agencies are "relevant agencies," and the section defines "organized retail crime" and the listed congressional committees covered by reports.
