Show full summary
  • Tribe and local community: The land would be held in trust and become part of the Tribe's reservation. The Secretary of the Interior would complete a boundary survey within 180 days.
  • Utilities and renewable projects: The Tribe would need to grant a qualified electric utility an approximately 300-foot-wide right-of-way for high-voltage transmission for construction and maintenance. That right-of-way must be granted within 30 days and must be consistent with existing renewable transmission agreements on the Snow Mountain Reservation.
  • Legal rights and agreements: The bill does not affirm or deny federal reserved surface or groundwater rights and preserves any Tribe water claims under state law. It also preserves the March 2021 Intergovernmental Agreement with the City of Las Vegas and repeals Section 3092 of the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015.

Transfer land to Tribe with limits

If enacted, the bill would direct the United States to take about 3,156 acres of Bureau of Land Management land into trust for the Las Vegas Tribe of Paiute Indians. The bill would use the "Southern Nevada Land Management" map dated November 14, 2024, and require the Interior Secretary to complete a boundary survey within 180 days. The Tribe would have to grant a roughly 300-foot-wide right-of-way to a qualified electric utility within 30 days for high-voltage transmission tied to existing renewable-energy agreements. Class II and Class III gaming would be banned on the land taken into trust. The bill would not decide any Federal reserved water rights, would preserve the Tribe’s state-law water claims, would not change the March 2021 agreement with the City of Las Vegas, and would repeal section 3092 of the 2015 NDAA.
