New January 6 oral history program

This bill would require the Library of Congress to create an oral history program about January 6, 2021. It would collect audio and video interviews and written materials like notes, messages, photos, and social posts from people who were there or affected. The Director would catalog the materials and make them public through the National Digital Library and other methods when resources allow. The Librarian could solicit donations and place gifts into a new Treasury gift account that would be used only for this program. The bill would authorize $500,000 for fiscal year 2027 and such sums as may be necessary for later years. The Director would begin collecting as soon as practicable and prioritize accounts at risk of being lost.
