More tech training partnerships for veterans
If enacted, the VA Secretary would work with private employers, schools, and nonprofits to identify emerging technologies, specific industries and job titles with strong growth potential and the courses that train veterans for those jobs. The VA would be required to add those technologies, courses, industries, and positions to the Transition Assistance Program and feature them on the VA website. Within 90 days after enactment, the VA would set up an expedited approval process for those identified courses using the existing approval rules in chapters 34, 35, and 36 of title 38. The Secretary would consult the Secretary of Labor to decide which technologies count (examples given: artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing). This section would terminate on September 30, 2027.
Include emerging technology in VA programs
If enacted, the bill would change VA high-technology program language to read “high technology and emerging technology.” It would replace references to “high technology” with “high technology or emerging technology” in the named program rules and add a requirement to identify technologies of critical importance (examples: artificial intelligence and semiconductor manufacturing) as emerging technologies. The change would take effect upon enactment.
