New rules for polling place notices
If enacted, the bill would require States to notify any registered voter assigned to a different polling place for a federal election at least 7 days before the election. States and local officials would have to notify affected voters by mail and telephone, and by text message and email if those are available. Officials would also post a general notice on the State or local website, on social media if available, and put signs at the former polling place. If a change is made fewer than 7 days before the election and a voter appears at the former polling place, officials would have to make every reasonable effort to let that voter cast a ballot. For vote-center jurisdictions, officials would notify every eligible voter of all polling locations no later than 2 days before early voting begins. The bill would also require signs and online notices for locations that are closed, require compliance with Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act, and would apply to elections held on or after January 1, 2026.
