Sponsored By: Representative Scholten, Hillary J. [D-MI-3]
In Committee
Summary
Would extend Part 117 flight and duty limits and rest requirements to all Part 121 flightcrew and certificate holders. This bill would direct the Federal Aviation Administration to update its regulations so that the flight and duty limitations and rest requirements in Part 117 apply to any flightcrew member or certificate holder conducting operations under Part 121. The agency must complete those regulatory changes within 180 days after enactment to bring commercial airline crews under the same fatigue rules.

More pilot rest rules for airlines
This bill would require the FAA Administrator to update rules within 180 days of enactment. The update would make Part 117 rest and duty rules apply to all Part 121 airlines and their pilots. If enacted, this would likely improve traveler safety by giving pilots more consistent fatigue protections. Airlines would likely change schedules or staffing to meet the new rules.
