New Energy Department role on energy emergencies
If enacted, the Energy Department would take a clear lead on energy emergencies and security. It would cover infrastructure resilience, emerging threats, cybersecurity, supply, and planning, response, and restoration. Upon request, it would give technical help to State, local, and Tribal governments and energy companies to protect against, detect, and respond to threats and incidents. The Secretary would ensure this work is coordinated with other federal agencies. The bill does not provide new funding and would take effect upon enactment.
