Golden Thirteen Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Representative Norton, Eleanor Holmes [D-DC-At Large]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would authorize the posthumous awarding of a Congressional Gold Medal to the Golden Thirteen, honoring the group of Black sailors trained for officer service in 1944 who became known as the Golden Thirteen. It would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to design and strike the gold medal, give the medal to the Smithsonian Institution for display and research, allow the Secretary to strike and sell duplicate bronze medals to cover costs, and charge the U.S. Mint Public Enterprise Fund for striking costs with proceeds from duplicate sales deposited back to that Fund.
