Emergency pay for Capitol Police

This bill would create a $50,000,000 United States Capitol Police Reserve Fund. The Secretary of the Treasury would deposit $50,000,000 from Treasury into the Fund. If a lapse in appropriations for the Capitol Police begins, the Chief of the Capitol Police, with approval from the Capitol Police Board, would be able to use the Fund only to pay salaries and necessary expenses until the lapse ends. Any amounts left in the Fund on December 31, 2026 would be transferred to the Treasury by January 31, 2027 and rescinded. Within 30 days after that transfer, the Chief would send a report to four congressional committees: House Administration; Senate Rules and Administration; House Appropriations; and Senate Appropriations.
