- Emergency responders and animal teams: Could purchase collapsible crates, mobile equipment trailers, emergency generators, field rescue gear, disaster response software, and fund team development and training.
- Pet owners and households: Expands access to emergency sheltering equipment, veterinary and animal health supplies, and pet-support services that make evacuations and shelters more accommodating for companion animals.

More pet emergency help for communities
If enacted, State, local, and tribal governments would be able to use Section 662 grant money for pet emergency preparedness. Allowed purchases would include collapsible crates, mobile animal trailers, pet food and veterinary supplies. They could also buy emergency sheltering gear, generators, disaster response software, training, animal response teams, and rescue equipment. Activities described in the pet preparedness subsection would be eligible for a 90% Federal share. Other Section 662 activities would remain eligible for a 50% Federal share. The change would take effect upon enactment and apply only to grants under Section 662.
