CHEERS Act of 2026
Sponsored By: Representative LaHood, Darin [R-IL-16]
Introduced
Summary
Reclassifies qualified energy-efficient draft alcohol dispensing equipment as 15-year business property. This change moves specified stainless steel or aluminum containers and commercial tap systems used to distribute alcohol into a faster depreciation category so businesses recover costs sooner.
Show full summary
- Owners of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues can depreciate eligible stainless steel or aluminum draft containers and related commercial tap equipment over 15 years, allowing faster cost recovery for that equipment.
- Taxpayers who rent or lease qualified energy-efficient draft alcohol property are covered by a rulemaking authority that lets the Treasury issue guidance on how the 15-year treatment applies to leased or rented equipment.
- The change applies only to property placed in service after December 31, 2025.

Tax break for draft alcohol equipment
If enacted, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues would be able to treat certain stainless steel or aluminum draft alcohol tanks and commercial tap equipment as 15-year property for depreciation. That would speed tax write-offs and lower taxable income in early years. To qualify, equipment must be installed in a U.S. building and principally used in the business. The rule would apply only to property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and the Treasury would write rules, including for rented or leased equipment.
