Parents and caregivers: car seat safety
If enacted, the bill would require the Department of Transportation to run a public education campaign about the dangers of noncompliant or counterfeit child restraint systems, including car seats and booster seats. The campaign would have to begin not later than 1 year after enactment. Congress would be authorized to appropriate $1,500,000 to carry out the campaign, and those funds would remain available until spent. The bill would also add a requirement that the Federal highway safety program include public information for States on identifying and avoiding counterfeit or noncompliant car seats; that change would take effect when the bill is enacted and does not itself provide new funding.
