Retirement parity for tribal educators
If enacted, you would be treated as a federal employee for retirement if you work at a tribally controlled school. The school must operate under an Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act contract or a Tribally Controlled Schools Act grant. The Bureau of Indian Affairs would pay the government share of Federal Employees Retirement System pension contributions and of Thrift Savings Plan government contributions. You could elect not to be covered under these federal retirement rules under procedures set by the Office of Personnel Management. This would take effect upon enactment.
