Stabilization grants for grocery and farm workers

This bill would create a Grocery, Farm, and Food Worker Stabilization Grant Program. The Secretary of Agriculture, through the Agricultural Marketing Service, would run the program. Grants would go to membership organizations or labor unions that represent farm, meat processing, or grocery workers. The Secretary would decide which groups qualify and which disasters trigger payments. Those groups would make stabilization payments to workers after a qualifying disaster. Congress would be authorized to appropriate $50 million for the program and the funds would remain available until spent. The Secretary would report program outcomes to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees within four years.
