Ban on remote chemical abortions
If enacted, the bill would make it a federal crime to provide a chemical abortion in or affecting interstate commerce unless three requirements are met. The provider would have to examine the patient in person and be physically present where the abortion takes place. The provider would also have to give a catch kit and a red bag medical waste container and instructions to return them to the provider. Each violation would be punishable by up to 5 years in prison, a fine up to $50,000, or both, per occurrence. The bill would also define key terms, including "abortion", "chemical abortion drug" (including mifepristone and misoprostol), "catch kit", "red bag medical waste", "fertilization", and "unborn child".
