Sergeant Gary Beikirch Medal of Honor Act
Sponsored By: Representative Morelle, Joseph D. [D-NY-25]
In Committee
Summary
Allows surviving spouses to receive both the Medal of Honor special pension and dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC). The Sergeant Gary Beikirch Medal of Honor Act would strike a restriction in 38 U.S.C. 1562(a)(2) so an eligible surviving spouse can collect both benefits concurrently.

More benefits for Medal of Honor spouses
If enacted, surviving spouses of Medal of Honor recipients who qualify for both benefits would be able to receive both payments at the same time. The bill would remove the legal restriction that currently bars getting both payments together. It would not change how much each payment is. The bill text does not set an effective date, phase-in, or sunset.
