New oversight for prediction market platforms
This bill would define a "prediction market contract" as any financial instrument or derivative offered by an interstate platform that pays based on whether a future event happens or does not happen, including market-based event contracts. If enacted, it would make Sections 4(c) and 6(c) of the Commodity Exchange Act apply to illegal trading in those contracts. That would subject platforms and people who trade these contracts to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's existing prohibitions and enforcement tools. The bill would not create new enforcement powers, new funding, effective dates, or sunsets beyond applying the existing rules.
