New road safety guidance for storms
If enacted, the Secretary of Transportation and the Director of the National Weather Service would set up a working group. The group would be established not later than 180 days after enactment. It would develop best practices for managing roads during inclement weather. Within 180 days after the practices are established, the Secretary and Director would submit them to Congress. They would send the practices to two congressional committees. Those are the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. The bill would not provide funding, create penalties, or require states to follow the guidance. The guidance would be intended for federal, state, and local road managers to improve safety and operations.
