Colonel Young Oak Kim Congressional Gold Medal Act
Sponsored By: Representative Strickland, Marilyn [D-WA-10]
Introduced
Summary
This bill would award a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal for Colonel Young Oak Kim in recognition of his extraordinary heroism, leadership, and humanitarianism. It would direct congressional leaders to arrange the presentation and require the Secretary of the Treasury to strike a gold medal with suitable emblems and inscriptions. After the presentation the gold medal would be given to the Smithsonian Institution for display and research, with a preference for showing it at the National Portrait Gallery or loaning it elsewhere. The Secretary could also strike and sell bronze duplicates under regulations at prices sufficient to cover costs, and the medals would be treated as national medals and numismatic items under title 31.
