More biotech education for high schools

If enacted, the Director would make competitive, merit-reviewed grants to expand biotechnology education for secondary school students. Grants would go to state and local education agencies, colleges, eligible nonprofits, or consortia. Funds could be used for teacher training (including lab instruction), curricula, lab equipment, school–college–industry partnerships, and development of transferable, stackable biotech credentials. The Director would set application rules, could prioritize applicants with limited access to biotech resources, and must create a National Biotechnology Education Consortium within 180 days; that Consortium would end five years after it starts.
