Show full summary
  • People who can use Trump accounts would keep access beyond the pilot period. The $1,000 baseline would be indexed for inflation and rounded down to the nearest $100.
  • Tax code and IRS references would be updated by striking "pilot" from multiple section headings and tables so the program is treated as permanent in law.
  • The changes would apply for taxable years beginning after December 31, 2026 and inflation indexing would begin for taxable years after 2028.

Permanent Trump accounts with indexing

If enacted, this bill would make the Trump accounts contribution program permanent by removing its statutory sunset. The change would apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2026. The bill would keep the $1,000 base amount. For taxable years beginning after 2028, the $1,000 would be increased each year by the tax-code cost-of-living adjustment using calendar year 2027 as the reference. Any annual increase that is not a multiple of $100 would be rounded down to the next $100. The bill would also remove the word "pilot" from related section headings and tables.
