Deduct Taxes on Gas and Electric Bills
This bill would let you deduct all taxes and State-mandated surcharges shown on your gas or electric utility bills if you itemize deductions. It would amend the tax code to treat those state surcharges as "taxes" for the deduction. The change would apply to taxable years beginning after the date of enactment. It would only help taxpayers who itemize and does not set any dollar limits or new programs.
