Match retiring and new farmers
If enacted, the bill would require the Agriculture Secretary to set up a Farm Land Link program within 180 days. The program would keep a database of people leaving farming and people who want to become farmers. The Secretary would help match and facilitate transfers of farm businesses and property, and publish guidance. The Secretary would consider the 2018 Commission on Farm Transitions study when running the program. The program would end 5 years after enactment unless the Secretary extends it for one additional 5-year period by acting at least 180 days before the scheduled end. The Secretary would report to the House and Senate Agriculture Committees starting 30 months after enactment, then annually, and file a final report within 180 days after the program ends.
