Hazard pay for health care workers

If enacted, the bill would create grants for hazard pay and workplace safety at health facilities and home health agencies during declared emergencies. Grants would go to public or private nonprofit facilities and home health agencies. Recipients would use funds to pay eligible on-site health care workers up to $13 per hour extra, on top of regular wages, with a $25,000 per-worker annual limit. Funds could also pay for safety measures like alternative transit, PPE, and other protections. The bill would define eligible workers as essential health care workers who cannot work remotely and list the types of emergencies that qualify.
