Introduced

Summary

Authorizes states to add targeted boating fees when they number vessels. This bill would let state issuing authorities collect extra boating-related fees linked to vessel-numbering and limit the money to boating safety, access, search and rescue, and aquatic invasive species work.

Show full summary
  • Boat owners and recreational users could see an added fee during registration or vessel-numbering. The money would go to local safety, access, and invasive species efforts rather than general state funds.
  • State issuing authorities would have explicit legal authority to set and collect these fees as part of existing vessel-numbering collections. That creates a dedicated mechanism for funding boating programs.
  • Safety responders and environmental programs would gain a focused revenue stream for search and rescue, boater education, dock and access improvements, and aquatic invasive species prevention and response.
