No tax deduction for private planes
This bill would disallow tax deductions for amounts paid or incurred to buy, maintain, operate, or depreciate fixed-wing airplanes. The rule would apply to amounts paid or incurred after December 31, 2025. Narrow exceptions would cover planes mainly used to carry property; planes modified and mainly used for agriculture, firefighting, or emergency medical work; and costs tied to businesses that provide flight instruction, public skydiving, scheduled passenger service open to the public, or sightseeing flights. If enacted, people and businesses that now deduct these airplane costs could pay more in federal income tax.
