Let governors request Guard drone defenses
If enacted, the bill would let a state governor ask the Secretary of Defense to authorize National Guard members to act against dangerous unmanned aircraft. Those Guard members would need to be on orders under title 10 or title 32 and assigned the right duties, and the authority would operate notwithstanding certain federal aviation and criminal statutes. The Secretary of Defense would be added to DHS decision paths and must be consulted before DHS issues guidance that affects these missions. The bill would also let the military order some Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve members to active duty for these missions and allow Title 32 drills to include training to support them.
