Protecting data centers and neighborhoods

This bill would require the Department of Homeland Security, through CISA, to identify which data centers should be treated as critical infrastructure. It would require CISA to consider power and water supply security, with special focus on above-ground transmission lines and electrical substations, and any impacts on nearby communities or residential areas. CISA would submit a strategy and recommendations to Congress to defend those data centers from external breaches and to protect nearby communities. The identification and strategy would be due not later than 180 days after enactment, and the bill would use existing federal definitions for "critical infrastructure" and "data center."
