Stops Homeland Security detainers
If enacted, this bill would bar the Secretary of Homeland Security from issuing or enforcing any immigration detainer or hold. It would remove the drug-related detainer authority by striking subsection (d) of 8 U.S.C. 1357. It would also strike paragraph (3) of 8 U.S.C. 1226(c) and forbid the Secretary from conditioning intergovernmental agreements on other agencies enforcing DHS detainers. These changes would take effect upon enactment and apply even if other laws say otherwise.
