Primary care reporting and study
If enacted, this bill would require federal health agencies to report each year on how much they spend on primary care. Reports would be due within one year and then at least annually, and would cover the one-year period ending 90 days before the report date. Each report would show the dollar amount and the share of program funds spent or obligated for primary care. The Secretary of HHS would define what counts as primary care spending. The bill would also require the HHS Secretary to create a Working Group on Primary Care within one year. The group would study how federal health programs and the federal employee health plan could prioritize primary care, increase access to primary care providers, and improve primary care quality, including in rural and medically underserved areas. The Working Group would get input from states and stakeholders and must send recommendations to Congress within one year after it is set up.
