Trained suicide-prevention providers for veterans
If enacted, VA would have to make annual, evidence-based suicide-prevention training available to covered providers within 180 days of enactment. Covered providers would include VA health care providers named in law and non-VA providers with Veterans Care Agreements. VA would create a public preferred-provider list of providers who complete the training and would accept substantially similar non-VA training that meets competency standards. Providers could ask to be removed from the list, and VA would review the list each year to confirm training.
