Public CDC gun research database
If enacted, the CDC Director would have one year to create a public database of U.S. gun-violence research. The CDC would publish clear rules for what research to include within one year and would update the database every six months. Included studies would need original data analysis or systematic review, cite data sources, and explain methods, and would identify authors and funding when possible. The database must include research from six national data systems, including the National Vital Statistics System and the National Violent Death Reporting System. The bill would also say HHS funds (including CDC and NIH) may be used for gun-violence research. It would authorize $5,000,000 each year for fiscal years 2026 through 2030, which Congress must appropriate.
