Environmental DNA grants for fish surveys

This bill would create the eDNA Sport Fish Survey grant program. The Interior Secretary, acting through the US Geological Survey and coordinating with NOAA, would award grants to States, local and Tribal governments, colleges, and nonprofits. Grants would pay to add environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring to sport fish surveys. Uses could include larger or more frequent sampling, better species ID and population estimates, invasive species detection, and monitoring endangered fish. The bill would authorize $4,000,000 per year for fiscal years 2027–2033 (about $28 million total). Congress would need to appropriate the money before grants are paid.
