Raising awareness for the sarcoma cancer chordoma.
Sponsored By: Representative Johnson, Henry C. "Hank" [D-GA-4]
Introduced
Summary
This resolution would call for increased funding and support for chordoma research and care. It says chordoma is a slow-growing but aggressive bone cancer of the skull and spine that affects people of all ages, with more than 25,000 individuals worldwide and about 300 diagnoses in the United States each year. Chordomas touch critical structures such as the brain stem and spinal cord, which makes treatment difficult. Surgery or radiation can cure some patients, but recurrence is common and no drugs are known to cure patients who progress after those options. The resolution urges increased support for four aims: accurate early diagnosis, development of new treatments and diagnostics, fewer hurdles from research to new therapies, and patient-centered approaches to drug discovery and development.
