Summary

Highlighting postpartum health disparities that hit mothers of color hardest. H. Res. 1268 would designate May 3–9, 2026, as National Postpartum Awareness Week for Communities of Color and draw attention to facts such as Black and Native women being 3 to 4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes and that more than two-thirds of pregnancy-related deaths occur during the postpartum period. The resolution would support efforts to combat institutional racism, promote respectful culturally competent postpartum and mental health care, push for policies to remove access barriers, and celebrate community organizations working to improve postpartum outcomes.
