Introduced
Summary
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the amphibious landing on Iwo Jima and the flag raisings on Mount Suribachi. This resolution would honor the Marines, sailors, soldiers, Army aircrew, and Coast Guardsmen who fought there, remember more than 26,000 U.S. casualties including over 6,800 killed, note the heavy Japanese losses and 1,083 survivors, and highlight the battle's role in securing airfields that supported B-29 operations and Allied victory. It would encourage commemorative events in Washington, on Iwo Jima, and internationally.
