Introduced
Summary
Preserving linguistic diversity and multilingualism. This resolution would endorse UNESCO's International Mother Language Day and encourage Americans to observe February 21 with ceremonies and programs. It notes the date honors 1952 demonstrations in what is now Bangladesh and that 2025 is the celebration's twenty-fifth anniversary. The resolution cites UNESCO data that of about 8,000 world languages roughly 1,181 are not in use and about 6,000 are endangered. It also notes the United States has more than 350 languages and that over 115 Native North American languages are already extinct.
