Summary
School Social Work Week designates the week beginning March 2, 2025 as a time to honor school social workers and raise awareness of their role in students' mental health and school success. The resolution notes school social workers are licensed mental health professionals who provide assessment, counseling, family outreach, and community referrals and it cites evidence that school mental health programs reduce absences and dropouts and improve achievement while 17.4 percent of children ages 2 to 8 have a diagnosed mental, behavioral, or developmental disorder and fewer than 1 in 5 children in need receive services.
