119-hres-218119th Congress

Recognizing and honoring teachers who have earned or maintained National Board Certification.

Sponsored By: Representative Letlow, Julia [R-LA-5]

Introduced

Summary

National Board Certified Teachers are honored by a House resolution for earning or maintaining certification as of March 2025 and for improving student learning and school staffing. Research cited says students taught by these teachers learn more, with particular gains for low-income students. A single Board-certified mathematics teacher can raise a student's lifetime earnings by $48,000. The resolution notes NBCTs help recover COVID-era learning loss by about 1 to 2 months of instruction per year, boost teacher retention, and urges states and districts to expand incentives and support; in 2024, 4,355 teachers newly earned certification, 4,884 maintained it, and 141,464 teachers hold National Board Certification as of March 2025.
