Introduced
Summary
Recognize the 250th anniversary of Morocco’s recognition of the United States and celebrate the enduring U.S.–Morocco friendship. The resolution would mark December 1, 2027 and recount key moments: Sultan Sidi Muhammad Ben Abdullah opening Moroccan ports to American ships in 1777, the Continental Congress sending its first diplomatic letter in 1780, the 1787 Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and Morocco’s 1821 gift of the Tangier American Legation; it would highlight Morocco’s history of religious coexistence, the 2006 U.S.–Morocco Free Trade Agreement, ongoing security and counterterrorism cooperation, Morocco’s role in the Abraham Accords, and encourage commemorations and continued collaboration on trade, security, digital transformation, and humanitarian and cultural programs.
