This resolution would congratulate him as the 267th pope after white smoke rose from the Sistine Chapel on May 8, 2025 and would recognize the election's significance for American Catholics. It would commend his lifetime of service from his Chicago roots and a Villanova mathematics degree to decades as a missionary and bishop in Peru, his leadership as Prior General of the Order of St. Augustine, his 2023 elevation to the College of Cardinals and role as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, his status as the first Augustinian pope, and his fluency in five languages. It would extend prayers as he begins shepherding the world's 1.4 billion Catholics with wisdom and grace.
