Expressing support for the designation of May 2025 as "National Electrical Safety Month".
Sponsored By: Representative Bynum, Janelle S. [D-OR-5]
Introduced
Summary
National Electrical Safety Month would be designated in May 2025 to raise awareness of home and workplace electrical hazards and encourage protective actions. It cites that electrical failures lead to over 1,400 injuries, nearly 500 deaths, and about $1.3 billion in property damage each year. The resolution would encourage citizens to inspect homes and workplaces, install safety devices such as ground-fault and arc-fault interrupters and tamper-resistant outlets, and test and maintain smoke alarms. It notes over 2,000 children are treated annually for outlet-related shocks, supports the Electrical Safety Foundation's education efforts, and asks the President to issue a proclamation calling on citizens to observe the month.
