Summary
Celebrate Detroit's 324th anniversary and honor its role in American culture and industry. This resolution would recognize the city's 1701 founding by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and highlight key moments like the birthplace of the Model T, early auto makers such as General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, and Detroit's nickname as the 'Arsenal of Democracy' for World War II production. It would note cultural inventions from Motown and techno to Detroit-style pizza, the Detroit Jazz Festival, and the city's sports legacy with the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons plus plans for a WNBA team in 2029. The measure would also point to civic and community landmarks such as Belle Isle, Eastern Market, the Ambassador Bridge as a major U.S.-Canada crossing, the United Auto Workers union, and Detroit's diverse population and history with the Underground Railroad.
