Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that all 50 States should include the events of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the curriculum of elementary and secondary schools so that people in the United States may never forget that fateful day.
Sponsored By: Representative Garbarino, Andrew R. [R-NY-2]
Introduced
Summary
Would encourage all 50 states to include the study of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in elementary and secondary school curricula so Americans never forget that day. It cites that 2,977 people were killed and that first responders carried out the largest rescue operation in U.S. history. It notes many first responders and survivors have since been diagnosed with, or died from, illnesses related to their presence during the attacks and that the first post‑9/11 generation is reaching adulthood. Only 14 states currently require this instruction. The resolution would be nonbinding aspirational guidance for state curricula.
