  • Families and survivors: It would push for more funding for comprehensive research and continued support for programs that assist survivors and hold perpetrators accountable. It notes about 70 women are killed with a firearm by an intimate partner each month and an American woman is killed with a firearm by a current or former partner about every 12 hours.
  • Women and communities of color: It draws attention to stark disparities. Seventy-seven percent of firearm intimate partner homicide victims are female. Black women are three times more likely to be fatally shot by an intimate partner and nearly six times more likely between ages 18 and 34 compared with non-Hispanic White women. More than half of American Indian and Alaska Native women experience physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime, and 1 in 3 Hispanic women experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime.
  • Public safety systems: It would urge Congress to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, restrict firearm access for people subject to domestic violence restraining orders, and support local relinquishment processes. The resolution also urges immediate consideration of H.R. 4166 and H.R. 18 and other related legislation.
