This resolution would recognize Monique Limon as the first Latina and first mother to serve as President Pro Tempore of the California State Senate. It would commend her trajectory from being born in Santa Barbara to Mexican immigrant parents and graduating UC Berkeley as a first‑generation college student, through more than 14 years as an educator, service on the Santa Barbara Unified School Board, terms in the California Assembly and Senate with committee leadership, and legislative work on pay equity, protecting credit from medical debt, and supporting child care, and would congratulate her at a celebratory swearing‑in scheduled for January 5, 2026.
