In Committee
Summary
Allows IIJA funds for rehabilitation, reconstruction, or replacement of dams built under the Carey Act. This bill would let the Secretary use amounts made available under IIJA section 40901(2)(B) for those Carey Act dam projects, but only after affirmative determinations about project funding and fund availability.

Grants for Carey Act dams
If enacted, the bill would let the Secretary use IIJA amounts made available under section 40901(2)(B) to pay to rehabilitate, reconstruct, or replace dams developed under section 4 of the Carey Act that still operate as such dams. The Secretary would only provide funding after two affirmative determinations: that the dams have received the necessary funding to complete those activities under this subsection, and that the IIJA amounts remain available. Local irrigation districts, project sponsors, or states that own or operate Carey Act dams would be the likely grant recipients.
