Block offshore oil leases off New England
If enacted, this bill would bar the Secretary from issuing any new leases to explore for, develop, or produce oil or natural gas in outer continental shelf areas off Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The ban would apply notwithstanding any other law and to all future leasing decisions. Coastal communities and ecosystems could face fewer risks from drilling. Oil and gas companies would lose lease and development opportunities and potential regional revenue.
