Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Quinault land placed in trust

If enacted, about 72 acres in Washington would move from the U.S. Forest Service to the Department of the Interior. The land, shown as “Allotment 1157” on a map dated February 2, 2024, would be taken into trust for the Quinault Indian Nation. It would become part of the Quinault Reservation and be managed under laws for tribal trust lands. Existing easements, rights-of-way, permits, utility corridors, and access rights would stay in place unless changed under federal law. The bill would not change any rights under the Treaty of Olympia.

No gaming and limited cleanup on parcel

If enacted, the parcel taken into trust under this bill would not be eligible for gaming under federal gaming law. The Interior Secretary would need to disclose hazardous substances on the land as required by CERCLA section 120(h). The bill would not require the Secretary to clean up or remove those hazards as part of the transfer. These limits would apply only to this specific parcel.
